Ramsey Memorial Fund....read on for more information on how you can help.....
Ramsey Memorial Fund
This fund was established to honor Ramsey Richert, an appaloosa whose gentle disposition and kind spirit stole the hearts of everyone who met him. Ramsey was a magnet and a mirror for goodness. He drew in kids and adults alike, and with his warm and welcoming way, he taught each a little something about the power of kindness. And he taught most kids in the North Country with a passion for horses how to ride.
Gifts to the Ramsey Memorial Fund continue Ramsey's legacy of kindness and allow his memory to live through the hearts and lives of the horses gifts to his fund help save.
Beavis Memorial Fund
The Beavis Memorial Fund is for the race horses who come into our program. See Beavis' story below to learn about this inspirational harness racer who touched the lives of everyone who ever met him.The Beavis Memorial Fund is for the race horses who come into our program. The race horses who come into our program are most often donated by caring breeders or trainers who want these special guys to have a second chance at life after racing. Their stay with us is usually the longest of all the horses we care for. Sometimes this is because they've sustained an injury during racing that requires long-term rehabilitation for 100% recovery as a trail or pleasure horse. But mostly, it's because we want them to have the time they need to adjust to a simple life of leisure. When they have this time off, they become total "cream puffs", as a recent adopter of one of our race horses said about her new equine love.
This long-term rehabilitation is costly. A gift to the Beavis Memorial Fund will mean that Beavis' memory will give life to other race horses. Beavis was so noble, that he would ask for nothing less.
So Call Me "a" Doc Emergency Fund
This fund was established to honor a registered quarterhorse named So Call Me Doc, who was donated to our program after a laceration of his leg forced his caring owners to make a heartbreaking decision. Financial difficulties forced them to give up Doc to ensure that he received the medical treatment he needed for a full recovery.
Emergency medical care is common on our farm, and the biggest strain on our finances. To give you some examples: Cheyenne, a 2 year old paint mare who was near death upon her arrival after suffering 3rd degree perineal lacerations caused by the birth of her foal (she was intentionally bred far too young) required emergency care to stabilize and surgically repair her ($4,000); Aspen, a 5 year old thoroughbred stallion rescued from slaughter had intestinal blockage caused by internal parasites and required a middle of the night emergency visit and 24-hour intravenous ($600); and Esprit, a 2 month old quarterhorse colt arrived with a broken leg and required emergency care to x-ray, stabilize and heal the leg ($1,000).
A gift to the So Call Me Doc Emergency Fund will ensure that we can respond quickly to all emergencies to save the lives of these magnificent animals.
Make a gift in honor or memory of someone
If you have someone in your life that has everything, or is hard to find a gift for, consider making a donation in their honor. Provide us with their name and address when you make the gift, and we will send them a certificate and letter to notify them of your kindness.
If you have lost a loved one and would like their memory to live in the hearts of the horses we help, please consider a memorial gift. Provide us with how you would like us to remember them in our annual report.
Sponsorship Opportunities
The horses at Crane Mountain Valley Horse Rescue, Inc. would like to thank their generous sponsors for participating in the following sponsorship opportunities: The Winners Circle Sponsorship - $5,000 and up: Joni Friedman and Andrew Torgove Irene Harbison Evelyn Moss Edward Mrozik and Nancy Van Wie
This aptly named sponsorship opportunity helps the racehorses in our program and the permanent residents of our farm, like Red Tee Tomahawk ("Butch") a sweet paint mare saved from slaughter and left cripped, or Pelham Bay who helps us build self-confidence and self-esteem in children, adults and those with special needs during our community education and outreach programs.
Racehorses, in general, have the longest rehabilitation period with us. In most cases, these courageous equines are with us for at least a year. The primary reason is that these horses need the opportunity to know what its like to be a regular horse. When they arrive at our farm, they are often hot, or energetic from life on the track. After a year of rest, relaxation and retraining with natural horsemanship techniques, these beautiful animals make wonderful riding horses and lifelong friends. (As one of the adopters of an off-the-track thoroughbred says about her new equine hero, they become total crème puffs.)
In addition to the satisfaction of knowing that your donation gives these magnificent animals the second chance they deserve, we will send you periodic updates on how your special friend(s) is doing.
Rehabilitation Sponsorship - $2,500 - $4,999: Beacon Light Foundation Chester and Mary Broman Melissa, Dominic and Frances Eisinger General Electric Matching Gift Fund Glens Falls Foundation Donald and Sally Mack Pumpkin Hill Foundation
You may direct this sponsorship to one or more horses in our program. In addition to the satisfaction of knowing that your donation gives these magnificent animals the second chance they deserve, we will send you periodic updates on how your special friend is doing.
Love a Horse Sponsorship - $1,000 - $2,499: Brian Payne Liz Haigh and John Knoblock Richard Johnson Doug and Sarah Luke Sally Morehouse Rotary Club of Lake George Susan Taylor Libby and Sandy Treadwell Woody and Elise Widlund Sarah Wight Ned and Judy Wilson
This sponsorship opportunity is to help that one special horse that tugs at your heart. In addition to the satisfaction of knowing that your donation will give this magnificent animal the second chance it deserves, we will send periodic updates on how your special friend is doing.

How Your Tax-Deductible Contribution is Put to Work
If you knew you could save a horse, would you? How about if you knew that by saving a horse you could also help children and adults, and those with special needs?
You can. Here's how...
Our work is only possible because of the support of people just like you. We are funded by tax-deductible contributions. Our program is 100% volunteer. We have no paid staff. Administrative costs are less than 6% of our operations, which means 94 cents of every dollar goes directly to the care of the animals.
A gift of any amount makes a world of difference. $25 covers the cost of one horse's hooves to be trimmed (done every 6 weeks). $50 buys a week supply of bedding. $100 buys a one month supply of vitamin and mineral supplements. $250 covers the cost of one horse's vaccinations (done annually). $500 buys (just about) a month's supply of grain. $1,000 buys a month's supply of hay. $2,500 sponsors one horse for one year.
Every horse coming into our program receives a full veterinary exam, including shots, dental exam, and in many cases, x-rays, when recommended by the veterinarian. We immediately begin a regular schedule for deworming, hoof care, and dental work. Initial costs for each horse average $500 per month for the first 3 months. When you multiply this by 15-20, the average number of horses we have at any one time, it adds up exponentially.
We can only save these horses with your help. We have the privilege of caring for them, but it is the kind hearts and generous spirits of people like you who make it possible. You are the true heroes.
In addition to helping us help horses in need, your gift helps us provide education and outreach programs to the local community. We host field trips for local schools and youth organizations to teach kindness and compassion. We host internships and externships for high school and college students to earn course credits for the application to veterinary school. We host girl-scouts, boy-scouts and 4-H groups to earn their badges in community service and horse care. These programs are designed to educate children on the prevention of abuse and neglect, as education is the key to prevention. These programs are offered as a community service, at no charge.
We welcome regular visits from the participants and leaders of Community Workshop, Inc. and Essex Industries to build self-esteem in developmentally disabled adults. We offer seminars, workshops and clinics to teach the language of the horse, and natural horsemanship principles for building a relationship between horse and human that becomes the basis for a partnership based on trust, respect and harmony.
Our ability to help these magnificent animals, and offer these programs to the local community, is only possible because of people like you.
"By saving one horse, we may not be changing the world. But, we are changing the world for that one horse.
Please help us change the world.
Beavis Memorial Fund
Beavis was a true champion who gave his heart to racing, and his soul to humans. Beavis was donated to our program by caring owners, after a stifle injury halted his racing career. The "licker man", they called him. So named because he licked his young children as he nuzzled them, while enjoying their attention, laughter and gentle brushing.
Beavis quickly became our hearthrob, and the favorite of all of our visitors. Horses are incredibly sensitive to human emotion, and Beavis always knew what you were thinking and how you were feeling. He also knew just what to do. Christmas 2003, when Nancy's mother passed away unexpectedly, Beavis unselfishly responded. When Nancy went into his stall to feed him, Beavis reached out and drew Nancy into his neck with his muzzle, wrapping himself around her and holding her to sob in his soft, sweet hair. He held her while she cried.
After nine months in our program, Beavis' leg gave out. When Nancy led him out of his stall for turnout, Beavis stopped in the sand. He dropped his head, dug a hole with his hoof and nodded his head, as if asking for us to let him go to a place where he could once again run free. This strong and sensitive equine hero was humanely euthanized and laid to rest in our field on the hill overlooking the farm. Every morning when we look out our window, we can pay tribute to Beavis, who will live in our hearts forever.
